It's nearly rugby day!!

Hello and welcome to another exciting edition of Will pulls his thumb out of his arse and writes something on the club website. I am currently sat in the garden on a glorious Sunny August afternoon listening to Taylor Swift, however it won't be long until I like many thousands of others across the country will be rolling around in muddy fields chasing an egg-shaped ball. Game on.

Pre-Season training at Burley RUFC has begun in earnest and we are currently midway through our highly structured and periodised training program using all the latest innovations in Sports Science that the club budget can stretch to. This year we actually dedicated a session entirely to fitness testing, ironically it was the best attended session to date! Some very impressive scores were posted by several players with others leaving themselves in no doubt that they had much work to do before the long slog of the season begins. Regardless it left everybody in good stead of where they currently were and what they could improve on as training continues.

On the last Saturday in July a club day and general clean up was held with much work being done to the club grounds including a spot of pruning, trimming, and tree cutting. Highlights were a solid team effort to clear and level out Tom 'one shoulder combined' Barnes' parking space, Gav 'the general' Binder making a token appearance at the 11th hour with a strimmer, Richard 'wookie' Christie magically making cuttings and waste disappear, and Tom 'male model' Garrity being manly with power tools. Afterwards a well attended BBQ was held along with many a well contested game of Sink The Bismark.

As ever the maroon will be playing a Pre-Season fixture in order to give players a run out before the real work begins and to shake of the rustiness. This year Burley will be playing Thornensians at home on Saturday 20th August at the usual kickoff time of 1500. The following Saturday Burley will be playing a YST match against Skipton and the Saturday after that (3rd September) the league campaign for both the 1st and 2nd XVs will begin away and home to Leeds Corinthians respectively.

As such it is paramount that training is well attended so that as well as vital fitness work (and more testing so we can see who has improved and who hasn't!); set pieces such as scrummaging, line-outs, and back-move-thingys can be implemented and worked on. Therefore GET YOUR LAZY ARSES DOWN TO TRAINING YOU BUMS!! Training is always every Tuesday and Thursday at 1830.

New players are always welcome especially talented studenty types (as well as crap ones) to a welcoming and vibrant club. Old ones are welcome back too.

One final note annual subs are now due and this Season have been increased to £80 to include match day Polo Shirt, Shorts, Socks, and Warm-Up T-Shirt as part of the package. Money can be paid to David 'bomber' Harris or over the bar ASAP.

As ever many thanks for reading and I look forward to seeing you all new and old in the very near future.

P.S: Committee meeting this Tuesday post training (9th July)
