This weekend sees both our 1st and 2nd teams in cup final action.
The weekend begins with the 2s in the Lighting and Building Services JUG Final of the Halbro North West Leagues against Kendal 2s. The final takes place on Saturday 5th May 2018 at Burnley Rugby Club (BB10 2LS), kicking off at 3:30pm.
Kendal 2s will be hot favourites before the game begins, having been promoted to the Championship, finishing 2nd behind Blackburn 2s in Division 1 and coming on the back of a 17 game winning streak. However, Burnage will be buoyed by the fact they are one of only 3 sides to have beaten Kendal this season and by a decent second half of the season, which saw them finish 9th, but only 1 point off 6th. Kendal 1s also play in the Northern Premiership, the League above our 1s (and congratulations to them for winning the Cumbria Cup on Tuesday night with a narrow 18-10 win over Carlisle!).
Burnage's road to the final included a tight 28-27 away win at Sedgley Park 3s, a comfortable 54-19 win at home against Liverpool Collegiate 2s and a home semi-final victory over Liverpool Vet School 1s (24-20). Kendal had a walk over in the first round when Crewe & Nantwich couldn't travel and then followed this up with home wins over Blackburn (22-18) and Northwich (27-3).
The supporters' coach will leave the Club on Saturday at 12:45pm. To book a seat please contact Barty on 07734 323 125 or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Once that final's done you don't have to wait long for the next one, with the 1s looking to retain the Lancashire Trophy against Broughton Park, the team they beat 33-13 in last year's final in a mouth-watering local derby. This game kicks off at 4:30pm at Wigan Rugby Club (WN1 2SJ).
Broughton Park will approach the final quietly confident having been promoted from South/Lancs & Cheshire 1 to Burnage's North 1 West League as Champions. They also despatched Warrington in the Semi-Final, a team that beat Burnage twice in the League this season. That being said, Burnage have hit form at the business end of the season, finishing 6th in the League and having beaten 3 of the League's top 4 sides in recent weeks, being Vale of Lune, Wilmslow and Firwood Waterloo. Burnage beat Manchester in the semi-final and will be looking to bring the Trophy back to Varley Park for the second successive year.
The supporters' coach on Sunday leaves at 2pm and spaces are filling up fast, so please book your place with Barty (07734 323 125 or by email to email@example.com) to avoid disappointment.
Please get down and cheer on the teams if you can and let's hope they can bring the silverware back home! Good luck to all the players!
