Bourne End JSC v BJFC Lynx Blues

This game was played in the chocolate boxy environment of Little Marlow, a stone’s throw away from, reputedly, one of the best hostelries in the area.
But this pleasant, civilized scene did not distract the boys, and straight from the kick off they were on the attack.
Early chances were created by the swashbuckling Joe, who was getting to the byline on frequent occasions. His constant supply of good crosses were met by Rhys and Charlie S, only to be thwarted by good work from the Bourne End keeper, or put just wide.
With Galad and Firas working well together in the middle of the park, and Alfie adding tenacity and determination, surely an opener was on the cards for the Blues.
It came when Joe yet again prized open the home defence, and planted a ball onto Charlie S’s head. His acrobatic header looped the ball over the static keeper and into the far corner.
Burnham were now on the front foot, and Charlie C and Tom were coming more involved. But it was Rhys who burst into the opposition penalty area and set up Charlie S to score his second of the game.
But Burnham were not having it all their own way, and when the dangerous number 8 collected the ball and ran down the left, his quality finish brought Bourne End back into the game.
But Burnham would not be denied. Blake and Toby were defending like stalwarts, ably supported by Mitchell and Faiz. Bourne End always looked dangerous, and broke through frequently, only to be denied by Henry, who’s sweeper like goalkeeping was a settling influence on the away side.
Now it was the midfield where Burnham were beginning to dominate, and when Firas collected the ball, sent several opponents the wrong way, and set Charlie S up again, his quality finish re-established the 2 goal lead.
Half time: 3-1 to the Blues.
The second half started with Toby playing a marking role on the opposition number 8. Mitchell was now alongside Blake, and Faiz was on the left. Rowan and Tom were having solid games in the middle, showing flair, vision and good distribution skills.
However, it was Bourne End who scored next, when the nippy central midfielder outpaced the Burnham defence and toe-poked home.
But the Blues are built of stern stuff these days, and when Rhys chipped the ball over the home team’s defence, Tom was there to volley home to make the score 4-2.
Bourne End responded again, and when they won a corner, slack marking allowed their center forward a free shot into the Burnham net to again reduce the gap to 1 goal.
With 20 minutes still to go, the home supporters sensed something good was on the cards.
But it was Burnham who started to show their character, and with Mitchell snuffing out any danger down the right, and Galad now playing up front, several openings were being created which should have put the game beyond Bourne End’s reach. But it was not to be, and despite a spirited performance from the home side, it was Burnham who held on to take maximum points.
