End of season for juniors

Ged Entwistle

The U7's - U11's travelled to Preston Grasshoppers, the U13's hosted Fleetwood with a healthy squad of 18 players, the U15's had a morning paint balling and the U18's girls rugby travelled with West Park St Helens to Lichfield.....

The youngest side travelled with 10 players and making her debut for Burnley RUFC was Olivia Bythell. (Pictured )Once she got into she really enjoyed it especially the chasing and tagging people. Try scorers were aplenty as usual, and everyone seems to score a hatrick when you ask them, all good fun! Stars of the games today were Dan Jackson and Niamh Hamer, but to a player it was great to have such healthy numbers to travel with, the squad was - Austin Coates, Corbey Tonks, Sam Handley, Dan Jackson, Niamh Hamer, Olivia Bythell, Ava Smith, Noah Smith, Harry Taylor, Tristen Culshaw. Also pleasing to see George Daley supporting his team mates despite being injured .See you all through the summer, watch the website and texts for fun activities being planned for May, June and July, for now though parents have a well earned lie in . Hope you all enjoyed your first year at Burnley Rugby .Well done the coaches, Mark Jackson, Ian Coates and Phil Thornton.

U8's again to a player are showing real improvements .Deacon Tonks made the run of the day, and took on board what he has been told throughout the season. With this their last game of tags, next year it's tackle which to a player they can't wait for. However with the oldest tag team they are starting to play as a team passing and linking well, so let's keep this going .Well done throughout the season. One big aim for these boys and club is to recruit a few more players as most weeks they have eight lads running round, any present Year Three children who are keen just get in touch ( 07988122186 ), for information today was the last game, but like the younger tags events are to be planned so they continue to make good friends as well as play rugby.
Squad - Henry Shorrocks, Gabriel Metcalf, Deacon Tonks, Harry Jackson, Oliver Bettany, Archie Hamer, Miles Carr Oddie. Finally Quality job all season Howard Metcalf, coaching these developing players both on and off the pitch.

U9's what a morning and a shame the season cannot continue, today they travelled with 11 youngsters, the best to hit the road this season. With Preston having 20 to pick from. Two matches took place of 8 a side so Burnley managed to rotate their side, as Preston were able to play two completely new sides. The first fourteen minutes saw Burnley on top and the tackling has really improved from the previous weeks. Tackle of the day must go to Harrison Sedgwick, and tries went to Harry Cole. With Burnley winning this match 4 - 2. With Tom Handley making his debut showing real pace and tackling.Hed only practiced the technique five minutes before, but fitted into the side really well. The second match showed Burnleys strength in numbers . The home side scored some nice tries and took this match 5 - 1. However this set of Burnley lads have come very far in the last six weeks, and the aim now is to all start passing slightly more, but the tackling is a big positive .Next season they get a go at three player scrums and one on one rucks. Again to aid teamwork and friendships watch out for Summer Activities. Full Squad today - Layton Dalrymple, Harry Cole, Harrison Sedgwick, Thomas Wyatt-Sugg, Reeves Stobbs, Luke Worthington, Billy Marsden, Tom Handley, Elliott Pratt, Harvey Riley, Charlie Conway.

U10's this season the most successful team within the club winning many a match, today travelled with a squad of ten, which to keep progressing will need to increase, however at the moment they are all playing really wellAnother debutant for the club Nathan Kewin today ran really well and scored a try. Playing two sides from Preston and Manchester who had also travelled, so more games for the players, always a good thing, even if they looked slightly tired at the end. Burnley did score the last try of the morning through Troy Richmond, also on the score sheet was Blake Tonks and others, apologises not got tv replays and coaches were overseeing U10's and U11's.
Well done this seasons team. The squad who played today was, Jack Uttley, Ben Uttley, Deacon Tonks, Mason Ward, Troy Richmond, Charles Wilkes, Nathan Kewin, Max Thomas, Evan Welsh, Sam Shackleton. Finally well done to Chris Pickles, Joe Haley and Sean Ward for coaching and running this side through the season. All U10's this year let's see you through summer then back for another push as U11's next year.

U11's been bit of a up / down season for them but also good one as numbers have grown mates made and they finished with a win at Preston Grasshoppers. Playing two games the first finished in defeat for Burnley, but the second game the side came alive with strong runs from Sonny DiVito and tries from Carter Stobbs, Tom Madran and James McDermott. Todays young guns were Ellie Pullen, Sonny DiVito, Josh Mullrooney, Brandon Walsh, Carter Stobbs, James McDermott, Ben Hargreaves, Freddie Shorrocks and Tom Madran. With 16 children registered it will be great when this group embark on into their secondary school adventure .Then continue at Burnley whilst encouraging new school friends to come and play for their team.

U13's and it was a home game against Fleetwood and with a squad of 18 - 12 of which could play U12's ( Yr. 7 at school ) and 6 players in Yr. 8 at school this team results wise has struggled this year, but their commitment to each other and new players who have had a go can only bode well. What is needed is an increase in players then all could play in their own age group. However they are all playing really well. Today Morgan Williams crossed for Burnleys scoreand Roshane Hemmings a pupil at Unity College played their first game for the rugby club.
Well done Coaches Dom Bythell, Charlie Haynes and John Richmond for keeping these youngsters going and showed at the club awards Friday night that their is real team spirit amongst the side. Enjoy a few weeks off and re group through the summer for a big start in 2015/16 season.

U18's Girls - Polly Bell, Hannah Worthington and Emma Wall travelled with West Park to Lichfield and just lost the national finals to Berkshire Baa Baas 24 - 17, a fine effort from the Burnley girls and along with Burnley's U15's and U13's they have one more week of rugby at Vale of Lune festival next Sunday. Well Done Jason Bell and Dom Leck running the girls rugby at Burnley RUFC this season and girls in Burnley who fancy a go at a new sport get in contact and try TOUCH RUGBY in the summer which all about passing, handling and helping with fitness in the son and going to be run at Burnley purely for beginners.
