Eccles 46 Burnley 22
Eccles hammer in first nail!
A massive game for both clubs unfortunately at the foot of the table saw Burnley again needing to make 3 changes and then another last minute one on the morning of the game which does not help the cause.
The game opened up with Burnley taking it to the home side but then some 'shocking' tackles let Eccles in for the first try. Then Burnley began to take it to Eccles and some good interplay so James Redford cut a great angle and crossed for a converted try by Joe Parkinson 5-7. Again missed tackles and Eccles speedster was away Try. 10-7. Burnley then conceded some silly penalties and Eccles drove over the line from a line out - would it be better to concede a 'sensible penalty' rather than a try? Anyway Burnley fought back and Parkinson finished a move in the corner right on half time score 17-12.
The second half, and first of all the home side knocked on - No Scrum to away team? then a really powerful scrum taken against head, home centres almost stood next to away team, no penalty? Numerous scrums fed by Eccles into the second row - free kicks? NO......bobbling ball Eccles sprint clear try.....however should it have been!
Defence from Burnley then let Eccles in again score 31 - 12. Both Burnley centres Zane Smith and Rob Lawless were finding wholes running well off ten Shaye McCullough and from resulting breaks the ball worked it way to Parkinson and he crossed for Burnley's third, unfortunately there was another three tries for Eccles before Burnley bonus point try by Zane Smith. However in such a key game is one point enough? Time will tell over the next three months.
Finally there was some positive chat after, but due to work commitments there again will be changes for this weeks home game against Fleetwood but a good week training and into battle the first team will go. Onwards we roll.....
