Burnley 29 Colne & Nelson 27
A real competitive local derby was held at Holden Rd with Burnley coming out on top, starting poorly in the first 10minutes Burnley new they were in for a battle if they did not get organised. However they did led brilliantly by scrum half Henry Wilkes who organised the team and scored two tries. With the forwards making hard yards through Daniel Pullen and John Maddocks, coach Michael McGee believes he is slowly seeing the system the team need to play, in order to keep developing as a team. By implementing the system similar to the seniorS game plan areas of the club are working closely together.
As the game was close Burnley scored another two tries through the pace of Jack Irving, one of which was a well worked move from a set piece, showing the forwards develop the play and win the ball and the backs, Irving, finishes them off, team work.
Burnley converted three of their tries through three different kickers, Harry Smales, Sam Wold and Alex Minozzi, which is another positive having three goal kickers in one team.
One thing, the side need to concentrate for the full 60 minutes, when on top as the last 10 minutes Colne came back into it and had a chance of a draw, but real encouragement with 20 Burnley players available and players obviously buying into what is being delivered at coaching to generate a team performance.
Now time to enjoy your Christmas and New Year and let's come back strong in 2014, with any year eight boys out there playing at their school come and play rugby on Sundays to, with this team that's growing nicely but will always give new players a go. Report by Simon Finnan
