The club, having been through the mill over the last couple of years, when they almost folded, won their final game of the season 8-1 against Millom on Saturday to seal a return to the West Lancashire League Premier Division as First Division champions.
And they now hope this promotion will give them the impetus to push on.
It’s been a great season for the club, who were unbeaten at home, and also got to the League Cup Final, only to lose out to Norcross and Warbreck.
United held their presentation after winning the title on Saturday night, with John Hodgkinson named the players’ player of the year, while James Oldroyd, who netted over 30 goals during the campaign, took the manager’s award.
Burnley were unbeaten from Christmas as they surged towards the title, and had to win their last four games of the season, which they duly did.
They showed their character as well, staring defeat in the face at Hesketh Bank three weeks ago, as they trailed 2-0 down at half-time, but went on to win 3-2.
That game gave them the belief, and they crowned their season with a thumping 8-1 win to sign off in style.
