The opening fifteen minutes of this league game saw end to end play but ultimately providing little in terms of clear cut chances, the first attempt being a header from a Trafford defender which was comfortably into the arms of Tim Horn.

Burscough’s early attempts would be from set-pieces, and the visiting team should arguably have been playing against ten men, after a Trafford player would retaliate cynically to a David Lynch challenge.

Niall Cummins made his first start after returning from injury, but the Linnets striker would find his impact limited as the game settled into a midfield contest in the centre of the field.

Trafford’s best chance of the game would come on 35 minutes, when league top scorer Michael Oates would weave his way through the Burscough defence before hitting the woodwork, the rebound falling to a Trafford player who would send the ball inexplicably wide from 4 yards.

The second half started much as the first ended. Both teams would be restricted to set pieces before Derek Goulding’s team began to take a foothold. Louis Mayers would unleash a good free kick that would call the Trafford goalkeeper into action, just managing to tip over the bar.

The introduction of Bevan Burey for the Greens would provide some energy against a now tiring Trafford team, but despite some good play from the visiting side’s wingers, a killer ball was not forthcoming. Trafford would manage to hold on in the final minutes to share the spoils. A well-earned point for Burscough.
