As printed for Newport clash

Welcome to the players, officials and supporters of Newport RFC. There hasn't been a game between our two clubs for a few years, but with Newport unbeaten this season Burton face a big challenge this afternoon.

Last week Burton played Moseley Oak for the very first time and produced our first really dominant performance since the opening half at Wolverhampton. The results across e board were as follows:

Hereford 34, Dudley Kingswinford 13; Kenilworth 35, Crewe & Nantwich 32; Moseley Oak 8, Burton 67; Newport (Salop) 31, Bournville 21; Stoke on Trent 31, Wolverhampton 19; Stratford Upon Avon 21, Whitchurch 29; Sutton Coldfield 13, Worcester 18.

Many thanks to Nick Counter for writing a great Match Report. Nick rarely misses a 1st XV game home or away.

Congratulations to Nick Oxley on achieving 50 1st XV appearances.

The A XV met Camp Hill on the Croft last week but sadly the game ended prematurely due to an injury to a Camp Hill player. Fortunately the injuries weren't too serious.

The Bees recent form has been excellent and despite low numbers last week they are sitting at the top of the Merit Table - well done lads.

The half term Rugby Camp was well received by male and female players across a range of ages. Thanks to everyone who stepped in at short notice to help with both setting up and delivering the event.

Welcome to todays sponsors, Jupiter, who are one of our most supportive backers in many different ways. Mark and Yvonne Tweddle also contribute a huge amount of their own time and energy into the running of the club, so we hope that they and their guests have a great day.

Visiting the club today to celebrate his 50th birthday with old friends is former Club Captain Andy Stride; a Fly Half who just oozed class during 256 games for Burton 1st XV. Have a great afternoon Stridey.

On Wednesday our Honorary Treasurer Martyn Evans had an operation to fit a replacement hip. The first reports are that all went well so the best of luck with your re-hab Martyn.

Owing to the way the futures have fallen the Christmas Lunch will take place on 26th November. £12.50 for members or £15 for non-members. Book behind the bar or via enquiries@burtonrugbyclub.co.uk
