Be part of this historic day as the Olympic Torch travels through our Town this morning, 30th June 2012. Some roads closed from 6.30am.

You will have seen the Olympic Torch Relay on the news over the last few weeks, and it has been great to see so many people out to support the relay, waving their flags and cheering the torchbearers on their way. We are lucky enough to have the Torch coming through Burton upon Trent on Saturday 30th June; even though it will be early in the morning (7.31am is the approximate time!) let’s make sure the Olympic Torch gets a great welcome from the town, but also from Burton RFC.

We are planning to hold some activities at Peel Croft before and after the Torch has travelled through the town, these include an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for The Longest Marathon Playing Touch Rugby, a Little Ruggers session and we will be doing a BBQ breakfast. So we need each and every one of you to set your alarms early that morning and make your way to Peel Croft, preferably wearing a Club shirt, or in Black and White and let’s make sure the biggest cheers that day are coming Burton RFC.

Approximate Timings for the Event

  • 7.45am – 8.00am - Olympic Torch passes Burton Rugby Club outside ASDA
  • 9.00am – 9.40am - The return of LITTLE RUGGERS for one week only for 2 – 5 year olds – fun and games, activities and lots of running for youngsters. Adults are asked to work with their children to support them in the activities, particularly the younger ones! This is offered FREE OF CHARGE and new youngsters are more than welcome to attend.
  • 9.45am – 11.30am - Fun family rugby based activities for all ages including cross bar challenge, obstacle run, kicking competition and much more. Prizes will be given to the winners
.

The Rugby Club bar will be open along with a BBQ breakfast being served and available to purchase, a chance for members and guests to celebrate the OLYMPICS COMING TO TOWN.

Please be aware that roads along the route will be closed from 6.30am and 8.30am so plan your trip to allow time to see the Torch.
