A gambling man would have put his house on the Bridge to win this one - if he could have placed a bet at half time. Most likely he wouldn't have found anyone to take his wager as we were leading 18 - 6 and looking good for a shedfull more. Where did it all go wrong? Well a lot of fingers pointed to a very dodgy decision that gave the Riversiders possession and consequently the winning try in the last minutes of the game but of course that doesn't account for everything and I imagine Coach Cunningham will be having a few quiet words regarding defence.
Richard St Pier made a barnstorming run to crash over and open the score for the Bridge with his first ever try; a great effort especially as he was still feeling the effects of being elbowed in the jaw last week. Adam Price worked well and added another, and Robbie Batty once again put in a strong performance and notched up two more to his ever growing tally. The trusty boot of Jos Blackburn-Woods converted three of 'em and Nicco slotted the other one whilst Jos was off for treatment. In fact the magic sponge saw plenty of action, Liam Batty got punched in the head (we had to treat the other guy's knuckles - just kidding Liam), Mike Smith put in his best performance to date and got a slap around the chops for his troubles but there was no stopping the lad and he was soon back in the thick of it - well done Iron Mike, let's see more of that spirit! Andy Young made some storming yards and took some big hits for the team, we all breathed a sigh of relief when he got to his feet for the final time; but he was left limping - lets hope he's ok, we need players like him who give nothing less than 100%. And what a great début Andy Smith made, the ink was still drying on his registration form but our new centre put in a great shift and earned himself Man of the Match!
Final match of this Interim season is next Saturday, we are away to
Hindley A. C'mon the Bridge!
