Charging Rhinos push past Broncos
With a few players missing the Broncos visited Cadishead Rhinos this
Sunday after the Easter break, putting in another brave away performance.
Early on the lack of numbers and the time off over Easter showed as the Broncos were slow out of the blocks and conceded a couple of early tries from a fast moving Cadishead outfit.
The Broncos clawed their way back into the game and started to put
together some good sets making good yards but just coming up short.
Then finally the Cadishead defense opened and Kieran ran in on the
back of some good yards made by Oliver Hudson and Luke Gardiner.
Cadishead replied with some good play and strong running allowing them
in for another couple of tries.
Jack Gardiner started to get into the game and was unlucky not to
break through on a couple of occasions and took a few heavy tackles in
the process.
Cadishead continually showed some skill in attacking with some good
breaks leading to a few more tries.
During a good set from Bury making in-roads into the Cadishead
defense, Reece Latham took in a ball, making good yards to set up
Matthew Seymour, who had been in the wars all game, but spotted a
slight gap from acting half back which he exploited from 10 yards out
and scored a well deserved try.
Broncos started to up their effort and after a few sets of Cadishead
pressure Jordan ran in to score a strong running 50 yard effort.
Harrison Heyes put in a couple of great runs showing his pace and
agility and was just tackled short after a great 30 yard run.
But the Cadishead attack prevailed and they were back on the score
sheet a couple of times showing some good skill in exploiting gaps in
the flank of the Broncos defense.
Close to the end another great solo effort from Jordan put the Broncos
in again with only a few sets left to play. The Broncos defense had
worked hard all morning and was clearly tired as the Rhinos ran in
another.
In the last set of the match the Broncos worked hard to force their
way up the field to within 10 yards and were close to going in with a
good kick and chase but unfortunately the ball bounced unkindly to
deny the chasing players.
For his terrific running, some good tackles and never giving up until
the final whistle Man of the Match went to Oliver Hudson.
Special mention to Jordan and Kieran from the Cadishead Rhinos who
both played a half each for the broncos and both played extremely well
scoring tries for both sides.
