Looking back at the successful Bury ARLFC and then Prestwich ARLFC of the 1980s into 1990s - Rochdale Charity Cup Final 1983

Over the last week or so the club have come into possession of a huge amount of material relating to the Bury ARLFC side that operated in the early 1980s and which then became Prestwich ARLFC and that still operated into the early 1990s.

We’d love to here from anyone who was involved in the club over that time. You can email contact@burybroncos.co.uk or post at the bottom of this page.

The club was very successful winning divisions and getting regularly promoted. They also reached the Rochdale District Charity Cup Final in 1983. The match was played at the old Rochdale Hornets Recreation Ground and hopefully, with permission, we’ll be able to upload a team picture from the day. The Bury ARLFC side unfortunately lost the game to the more experienced Milnrow. Included here however is some of the content from the Programme produced for the day which was passed onto the club last night by ‘Dangerous’ Dave Latham.

The team includes a couple of names we know – Brian Kelly is listed and is of course the father of Carl and Ryan who have played in matches for us, while John Bradshaw has made himself known to us when watching games. Another name to note is Alf Conteh – a relative of the famous boxer from the time.

A copy of the player listing from the day is here

Look out for more over upcoming weeks…
