So with the start of 2017 brings a new season for the Bury Broncos but we can start this year with a look back at last...

...a season full of achievements and learnings which we’ll carry forward to make 2017 the best season yet as we approach our 10th birthday.

The Broncos achieved its highest place for the 1st team, who finished 5th in division 2 - fantastic progress when taken in the context of starting out in division 6 back when the club was founded in 2007. These awards just show that we have some great talent and dedication in the Broncos.

And dedication was certainly seen with the second team who stuck at a long hard season right to the end. For the club as a whole, in an area not traditionally associated with rugby league, fielding 2 teams every week was a great effort, and shows our collaborative success in building the club over the years.

On a community level, it’s really encouraging to see Bury Broncos being recognised by the council as they awarded chairman Ryan Lewis with the Bury Sports Volunteer of the Year award. Ryan also reached the final stage of the North West sports awards, and the RFL also recognised his work and commitment when they awarded him with the 2016 Volunteer of the Year trophy, too.

Over the course of the year, we’ve made good progress with the pavilion clubhouse by installing a new kitchen so we’re better able to serve food at games and create a general community clubhouse feel. More work will be done in the coming season, including painting and generally making it more of a base for the players, family and spectators to enjoy the great game of rugby league. With the renewal of the lease for the next 10 years, this will provide a stable base for the club to grow.

As mentioned up top – the end of 2017 sees Bury Broncos celebrating ten years since the initial meeting which brought about its foundation, so thank you to every person who has been involved and helped to make that happen. 2017 will no doubt bring challenges and successes, as we aim to make this a year we bring home a senior trophy!
