Under 15's - Report
Date: Sunday 29th April 2012 - Kick Off: 14:00
Colchester Festival
| Southwold | 12 | vs | 0 | Bury St Edmunds Wolves |
Wet wet wet
The Partridge and Wilson Solicitors*- sponsored Bury St Edmunds sides went to Colchester despite appalling weather for the 7 minutes each way festival.
Bury A started too slowly in their first match, often making isolated runs and the inevitable handling mistakes. They conceded a converted try to Dartfordians just before half time and despite having all the second half pressure against a strong defence never got on equal terms and went down 7-0. In a similar game against a strong Upminster side, the opponents took a first half lead, this time through a well-executed cross-field kick. Again Bury enjoyed the entire second half with good territory and possession but were unable to breach a resistant defence. Between these games, Bury dominated against Norwich and tries in each half by Ollie Deeming and Will Horsnell secured a 10-0 win but this wasn’t enough to progress to the next round of games.
The Wolves development side showed great spirit throughout their games, gaining a 12-0 win in the first against Mistley with first half tries wide on the left from Kieran Podbury and out on the right from Simon Codling. Bury continued to dominate in the second half but without adding to their points tally. Colchester B were beaten in the second game by 14-5 with Jed Robinson scoring a breakaway try and the other points from a penalty try to secure an excellent result against strong opposition In their final group game, the Wolves conceded the first try to Upminster B but Jed evened up the scores at 5-5 just before half time. Bury deservedly won the game when awarded a penalty try after Simon Codling was held back when chasing a kick though and Harry Stevens converted for a 12-5 success that put the Wolves top of their group.
The Plate Final against Southwold was once again a fairly even contest but eventually the superior forward power of the opposition saw the Wolves undone, losing to a try in each half with the final score a creditable 12 - 0 defeat. The Bury Wolves enjoyed a very satisfactory days work with the commitment in defence from all, the recycling ability of the forwards and the quality handling and lines of running from the backs a joy to watch.
