Robins Leave The Bucks Red Faced
Rampant Ilkeston put 10 past under par Buxton.
Ilkeston FC were the welcome visitors to The Pursglove Ground for the two teams first league encounter of the season. The match had earlier been switched to Tideswell due to Buxton first team commitments at The Silverlands.
Buxton, who did not have a fixture for the previous three weeks, were sitting nicely in third spot and on the back of two consecutive league wins although their opponents were top with only one loss in their six matches played and five wins in succession. Buxton had played the full-time academy setup during pre season in a friendly, also played at Pursglove, where Ilkeston came out on top winning 3-2 in an entertaining encounter.
Buxton were without defenders Clarke and Twyford, both declared unfit before the game, and centre midfielder Heywood was out of the country. Newly signed and first team squad player, David Taylor, made his competetive debut for the under 19s and into the squad came 16 year old striker Higginbottom.
The game started well from Buxton's perspective as with only 2 minutes played they created the first opening when Vize's clinical through ball was latched onto by Bradbury but the Ilkeston keeper did well to save with his body from Bradbury's close range effort. Buxton created a further chance almost immediately seeing the ball flash accross the Ilkeston goal mouth but without a player able to make ground to get the final touch. As the minutes ticked by the game settled and Ilkeston got to terms with the Buxton formation. They looked very comfortable and well drilled now as Buxton looked nervy and were getting beaten to the ball with ease. On 14 minutes the avalanche started when a neat flick-header flashed past Backhouse to make it 1-0. The goals just kept coming at regular intervals and by the 36th minute Ilkeston were 5 goals to the good, seeing off the dejected Bucks with a 22 minute footballing whirlwind. HT: BFCB 0-5 Ilkeston.
Buxton emerged for the 2nd half licking their wounds, with a mammoth task in front of them and some respect to claw back, but it was apparent from the early exchanges that the game would pan out the same and it wasn't looking good for the young Bucks. Ballington replaced Bradbury with 55 minutes played. Goals 6,7 & 8 for The Robins came on 55, 60 and 63 minutes as Buxton could just not contain their excellent opponents. Young striker Higginbottom replaced Fletcher up front on 65 minutes and Hall replaced team captain, Vize, on 70 minutes. With 15 minutes left to play Ilkeston got their 9th as Buxton couldn't wait to hear the final whistle. But first Ilkeston had a job to complete and they stylishly hit double figures as the minutes ebbed away. Ilkeston were class on the evening whilst Buxton were totally dominated for 85 minutes of the match with only 1 positive coming out of the game for them, the short but effective introduction of 16 year old striker, Cameron Higginbottom, who subsequently received the Buxton man of the match award from the referee having only played 25 minutes!
