Improved, Battling FM hold Bucks
Score Draw Sees Buxton Drop Another Two Points
Buxton visited FM Sports Dinnington for their second meeting of the season, the first seeing the Bucks take all the points with a convincing 4-1 home victory. Buxton travelled with a diminished squad of only 14 players as missing were centre backs Clarke and Moloney and midfield workhorse Swain. Higginbottom got his first start of the season after making an impression coming on from the bench in the previous week's demolition by Ilkeston and young goalkeeper Stanway replaced Backhouse between the sticks.
From the start it was apparent that FM Sports were going to be different opposition from what Buxton witnessed in their first encounter, when Buxton dominated throughout against a rather disjointed and unprepared looking outfit. This time FM's setup was in total contrast as they looked hungry and confident and had some good players on show. Buxton tried hard but couldn't get to grips, literally, with the surface and their useful opponents. With 24 minutes played Buxton again found themselves behind for the fifth time this season as FM were allowed to slide the ball home without a challenge. On 37 minutes a rare Buxton chance should have seen them equalise when Hopkins rounded the keeper but his tame shot allowed an FM defender time to get back and clear off the line. As the half came to an end Vize was shown a yellow card. HT: FM Sports 1-0 BFCB.
FM started the second period on a high as they competed well all over with some good wing play from the tricky wide players. Buxton on the other hand looked lost for ideas and with 65 minutes played Fletcher replaced Hopkins up front. Still Buxton found it difficult to create anything for the front pairing of Higginbottom and Fletcher and on 72 minutes Ballington was introduced in place of Higginbottom. Immediately Ballington had a glorious chance to make a name for himself as a dangerous ball across goal from Taylor found the substitute at the back post but with his very first touch he snatched his shot wide from 6 yards. Eventually, Buxton seemed to have woken up and with 15 left to play they started to assert themselves on the game. On 78 minutes they drew level when a Vize free kick evaded everybody around the FM goal and good presence by Twyford allowed him to slide in at the back post for the tap in. Only now did Buxton believe that they could win this game and went close again when Fletcher touched a good Taylor shot wide from around 6 yards. FM were on the back foot now as Buxton pressed for the winner but still looked dangerous on the break as Stenson was booked for a foul on the winger and Ballington went into the refs notebook just after. With only 5 minutes left Hall replaced Vize and on 87 and 89 minutes Heywood and Taylor respectively were shown the yellow card as Buxton pressed hard for the winner. FT: FM Sports 1-1 BFCB.
