The team fought hard against a strong & well organized Crewe & Nantwich side despite the 35-0 defeat. & 25-0 by half time.
Crewe controlled the game well, however although we put up some good resistance, there were 3 tries against us that flattered the Crewe score line due to the individual flair of their pacey inside-centre.
Buxton’s tackling was weak at times which allowed Crew & Nantwich to dominate. This was disappointing considering the hard work on last Sunday’s training where the lads worked hard with the tackle bags.
The team showed improved fitness during the game, reflecting their commitment at training. We still need to work on our passing, as occasionally it was loose & not released early enough to allow the play to open up.
The game was well refereed & with good use of the advantage rules keeping the game going. Ill discipline by a Crewe forward was noted & acted on by the referee substituting the offender. Buxton showed great constraint & self control by not retaliating, which is to their credit.
The team spirit continues to be high & the lads enjoyed their Rugby. Man of the Match was Rhys Hardreaves, who tackled hard & fought well against a strong team.
Although Crewe scored 8 tries, we were pressing for a score. A good run in the second half due to some well crafted open play was almost rewarded with a try for Buxton, however, Crewe defended well.
Buxton U14’s have the making of a capable side; our squad size presents problems, especially when today’s opponents had 23 available, to our 14.
Thank you to the Parents who travelled & supported the team.
