Junior Colts put Burnley to the Sword

Buxton showed no mercy, as they put bottom-of-the-table Burnley to the sword 27-5 at a just-thawed Sunnyfields.

Buxton U-17 Junior Colts showed terrific skills in the ruck and maul, as they bulldozered Burnley, keeping them pinned in their own half for most of the game. In fact, the Bucks were spoilt by the great ball available to them, that they over-thought the situation and made hard work of it. Despite lacking several key players, and losing two more within the first ten minutes, the strong Buxton side controlled much of the play, and were never in any danger; the Burnley try came from a line-out mistake on the Buxton line, against the run of play it has to be said.
Four tries could have easily been 6 or 7, and Burnley had to put in some hard defensive work to keep the Bucks out.
The match was notable for a spot of handbags near the end of the game, and the referee decided to show red to a player from each side, a slightly harsh decision under the circumstances.
However, a win is a win, and all who watched this match were mightily impressed by the spirit and no little skill of the Buxton Junior colts.
