HALF TERM REPORT
Heath reached the halfway point of the season with the 2 – 1 away win at Devizes.
There is no doubt that the squad has performed very well in the first half of the season with just one league defeat, and we have seen some tremendous performances along with some fast flowing football that have left some teams wondering what they could have done to stop us.
We have also enjoyed some very good cup days this season especially in the F.A cup, as this was the clubs first entry into this historic competition.
Firstly we travelled to Premier division Corsham Town and thumped them 6 – 1 we then travelled to Hellenic premier division side Slimbridge and came away with a great 2 – 1 win after Sacha Tong scored a goal from nothing to take us through.
We then were given a really tough tie away at Premier division Bishop Sutton and knew we would have to perform at our best to get a positive result, and perform we did coming away with a 4 – 0 victory in a game we showed just how good we can be.
Then came the moment of truth when we were once again drawn away at Southern league Poole Town who were absolutely flying at the time, this proved a game to much for the Heath and we were well beaten 4 – 0 on the day, but I think it is a day a lot of us will remember for a long time.
We then had a wait before we entered the F.A vase in the second round proper as we did so well the previous season.
This year we faced Falmouth Town of the premier division of the peninsular league and they also had been having a great run in their league scoring goals for fun, this turned out to be a very very good game with both sides going all out to win the game but at full time it finished all square at 1 – 1 extra time was then played and just as it looked as the tie was heading for a replay Falmouth scored in the last minute and broke the Heaths hearts.
So now we continued with our league programme and began picking up the points to move us up the table with great wins at Bradford and Wellington to name a couple.
Back to cup action with the G.F.A Trophy match against our local rivals Bitton.
Well we were all looking forward to this one and felt sure we could give them lots to think about and that is the way it went until on 20 minutes leading scorer Sacha Tong was tackled and ended up with a double break of his leg, this was obviously going to be a massive loss for the club in the coming months but we went on to win the game 2 – 1 with an excellent all round performance.
We then suffered a draw at Portishead and a loss at Calne in the Les Phillips cup, which could well have had something to do with Sachas injury, as we just didn’t look on our game.
At the beginning of December manager Andy Black decided the squad needed a couple of new faces to liven things up and with the signings of Matt Huxley and Mark Cherry he certainly did that with some much improved performances. With five wins and a draw since they joined us.
We have also moved into the semi final of the G.F.A Trophy with wins over Winterbourne and Fairford Town of the Hellenic league.
This has given the club a great platform to build the second half of the season on and we all at the club hope we can continue to build to reach our goal of promotion to the premier division of the Western league, and who knows perhaps a cup final too.
With six points from our first two fixtures in the second half of the season we are in a good position.
