Rhinos step up in class!
The Rhinos hosted premier division Ryland Sharks in a friendly at Lord Street on Saturday and gave an excellent account of themselves despite going down 16-38.
The Omens didn’t look very good at the start as the Sharks on their first attack sliced through a hesitant Rhinos defence and good backing up by the Sharks stand off resulted in a converted try 0-6 Sharks.
The Rhinos for the first 15 minutes were at 6’s and 7’s as they couldn’t cope with the fast play the ball that Rylands were playing and this resulted in a further 12 points being scored 0 -18.
It was Owen Holroyd who got the Rhinos back into it when he produced a tremendous tackle on his opposite prop which resulted in a spilled ball and though the Rhinos didn’t score with their set of 6 they did open a few eyes with their attacking and Rylands then knew they were in for a game.
Man of the Match Louis Royle, lewis nelson, Chris Wareing and Liam Walker were now getting in the faces of Rylands and the Rhinos enjoyed some good attacking but just on half time a knock on by Cadishead resulted in Rylands scoring an unconverted try to lead 0-22 at half time.
The Rhinos took on board what the coaches told them and second half came
out guns blazing and on 29 minutes Chris Wareing managed to break through and went on a 60 metre solo run under the post. Sam Murphy converted 6-22.
The Rhinos were looking good and their defence was excellent but a hard but fair tackle on Harrison Tyrrell which resulted in him leaving the field had an effect on the Rhinos and Rylands took full advantage by scoring two converted tries to lead 6-34. The Rhinos got it back together and on 39 minutes Chris Wareing scored his second try after a great flowing move in the corner. He converted his try with a tremendous kick from just inside the touch line 12-34.
Rylands scored an unconverted try on 42 minutes, but the Rhinos just would not give up and were rewarded with a Liam Walker unconverted try in the final minute of a thoroughly entertaining game of rugby. Final score 16-38.
A big thank you to Rylands for their support and also to the Rhinos home support it was much appreciated.
