Super start for under 9s
The under 9s put on a great show in their opening game against Woolston Rovers on Saturday
Woolston scored straight from the off before Owen Elliott hit back with a blockbusting try on the Rhinos first touch of the ball to level the scores.
The visitors settled the quicker of the two sides and two consecutive tries gave them a 12-4 lead.
A mazy run from Jay Pollock narrowed the gap to 12-8 before Woolston once again streched their lead taking advantage of some sloppy Cadishead defending.
Connor Bailey's try just before half time left the interval score at 20-12 to Woolston.
The Rhinos started the second half in determined mood and a try from Owen Elliott following good work from Connor Clarke and Joe Parry brought the Rhinos back to within one try.
An excellent cover tackle by Jay Pollock gave the Rhinos the ball back and captain Charlie Wells made some good yards before Jay Pollock scrambled over to level the scores much to the delight of the home crowd.
Woolston regrouped and a try minutes later restored their slender lead however Owen Elliott had different ideas as he outpaced the Rovers defence to grab his hat-trick leaving the scores at 24 all.
Once again Woolston responded well with a try of their own before Jay Pollock collected a pass from Connor Bailey as he completed his hat-trick.
Woolston again refused to let up their lead and scored again before Jay Pollock crashed over to set up a grandstand finish.
With the scores at 32 all and minutes left both teams tried their hardest to clinch the win however it was Woolston who showed the most composure and two late tries sealed the victory.
In a thrilling game where the Rhinos never managed to get their noses ahead Owen Elliott received the man of the match award for his strong running, birthday boy Tom McKay was named as the top tackler following his hard working effort in defence, Morgan Jones received the best effort award for making some great yards whilst Jay Pollock received the man of steel award following his great all round performance.
