Some tough early encounters saw defences on top in the early stages with both sides putting in some 'big hits'.

It was the Lions however who finally broke the deadlock with a well worked try and shortly after they scored another to give them an 8-0 lead.

The Rhinos forwards were working hard however with Morgan Jones and Luke Rawlinson making the hard yards before Connor Bailey got the ball and weaved his way through the Westhoughton defence for a great try.

The Lions hit back alomst immediately though and two quick tries before the break saw them lead at the interval 16-4.

Cadishead started the second half the brighter of the two sides and Jay Pollock took advantage of some good work from Charlie Wells and Dylan Martin to collect the ball and outpace the Lions defence for a spectacular try out wide.

Minutes later when Owen Elliott burst through the Lions defence for a try which brought the score to 16-12 it looked like a comeback was on the cards.

The visitors dug deep though and a duo of tries saw them back in control at 24-12.

The Rhinos were not done though and some strong running from Reece Ward laid the platform for Jay Pollock to race away down the right wing again for another excellent try.

Once again the Lions hit back immediately before Jay grabbed his hat trick with an almost identical try to the previous one.

A late try from Westhoughton sealed the win for them in a thoroughly entertaining game.

Hat-trick hero Jay Pollock was the Rhinos man of Steel.

Captain Thomas Mckay won the award for top tackler.

The impressive Connor Bailey grabbed the award for best effort whilst Owen Elliott was the Rhinos man of the match following a great all round performance.

Well done to both sides for the feast of flowing rugby they both showed!
