Before Laura met Danny Royle, a Rhinos player for 16+ years, she hadn’t even heard of cystic fibrosis, let alone wanted to start a fundraiser for the cystic fibrosis trust. But, the questions surrounding this genetic condition led her to want to do more, not just for Danny, but for everyone who suffers from CF. It’s as much about raising awareness for this condition, that affects over 10,000 people in the UK alone, as it is about raising much needed funds that will go towards research into hopefully finding a cure.

Danny himself has been at the Rhinos since he was 8 years old and is still an active player to this day, 16 years later. Since people are born with CF, that means he has had it long before he joined and he told us about how playing rugby league for the Rhinos has helped him in his fight against CF.
“Rugby League is a physically demanding sport on the body, and physical activity is key to me staying as fit and healthy as possible. All the lads I have met over the years have been ace, everyone gets on and it’s a hugely welcoming club which makes it a lot easier to drag myself to training and games after a long day. I couldn’t imagine playing anywhere else other than for the Rhinos”
Danny has been an integral part of the Rhinos open age team for nearly 8 years now and to have to overcome an intense physical battle before he even steps on the pitch shows the measure of his fight against CF.

Laura, who has set up the upcoming fundraising and awareness evening has been a huge support to Danny and he told us; “I’m immensely proud of everything that she’s done. Not much is done in raising funds/awareness of CF and Laura has done an amazing job already!”

She told us in her own words why she was doing it and what she hopes to achieve.

“I'm doing it mainly because of Danny, to support him and show him how much I support him and also it's helping me learn everything I can about cystic fibrosis, I've chosen to do the fundraiser to raise the money for the trust towards finding a cure and I'm going to keep doing this annually so keep raising money for the trust. What I want to achieve is raising as much awareness as I possibly can and I'm hoping to make people as aware of cf like they are of cancer as it's just as big of a deal but seems to be pushed to the side.”

Laura’s event is ticket only, and tickets are going fast with only a handful now available. It will be hosted at Phoenix City in Stalybridge on Friday 17th November starting at ….

Through Laura’s efforts a huge night is in store with 2 singers, 2 dance acts, 1 band, facepainter, mascots, instant win tables, local media involvement, a couple of guest appearances from the likes of Laura Alicia from ex on the beach, Jsky, Shane Burke. There's even hot food on the night available for everyone and a sweet treat for kids upon their arrival.
