Salford Red Devils superstar Gareth O’Brien was in attendance to help the young Rhinos celebrate their successes from 2017.

A great turnout from both sets of players and supporters (including proud parents) watched on in delight as the respective teams head coaches, Paul Elliott and Paul Chaplin, aided by Gareth O’Brien, dished out the awards to the hard working 11’s and 14’s teams.
Each member of those teams received a commemorative medal to remember the 2017 season by, presented by Gareth, as the coaches and assistant coaches watched on in pride.

After a topsy-turvy year the 14’s finished with some strong performances and are already looking ahead to 2015 to make a real challenge across the entire season. As for 2017 there was a spread of no less than 7 individual award winners in 7 different categories with many of those being very closely fought for and first up was Best Newcomer which went to Cameron Macdonald, who has added a big attacking threat to the 14’s in his debut year. With the 14’s having players from the younger age group playing up a year, the Young Player of the Year award was a big achievement for Sam Crowther who doesn’t let age or size intimidate him and always gives 100%.
There was just 1 try between 2 players both vying for the top try scorer award making this as close as any others, but, in the end it was Jay Pollock who managed to pip his rivals to the try line for this award. The Club Person of the Year award went to Ben Jones for what was described as a superb attitude and effort in training and in matches, not only in his efforts to improve his game, but also in those moments where he has helped out his teammates and coaches. Louie Saunders took home the Most Improved award for making huge strides in his own game this season which didn’t go unnoticed.
Perhaps the biggest award went to Jack Burrows, the Players Player of the Year award, after his teammates recognised his efforts through 2017 and he was highly praised by his coaches too. Jack has always shown a huge interest in rugby league and his knowledge of the game is second to none.
The prestigious Player of the Year award for 2017 went to Ellis Linney, whose impressive performances have been matched only by his attitude and efforts in helping the team to achieve the best they can throughout 2017.

Our under 11’s have been building well this season under their first full year with coach Paul Chaplin. One of the sides original members, Tom Cussons, walked away with the Young Player of the Year award as he has been playing up a year since the team’s inception and excelling amongst his older teammates. Best newcomer was awarded to Adam Fairhurst who has settled well into the established side and the fast paced training style of head coach Paul Chaplin.
For his continued enthusiasm and work rate, always giving maximum effort, Ben Appleby was awarded the Club Person of the Year award and the Most Improved award was won by Mathew Macdonald. After a tight battle for the Top Try Scorer in 2017 it was Josh Olori who took home that title.
The teams Players Player of the year, voted in by his teammates after a superb season in 2017 went to Te Koa Leef much to the delight of his team and the parents. Player of the Year was given to another of the originals and the team’s captain who had been leading by example all season, Sam Burrows.

A great evening with some very deserving winners and a special thanks to Gareth O’Brien and Salford Red Devils for helping these youngsters celebrate their achievements; And well done to both teams on a great 2017 and here’s to a fantastic 2018.
