A good start saw the Rhinos controlling play and strong running from Nathan Vernon and George McNulty-Shaw started to get the upper hand.

The Rhinos hard work and possession was rewarded when captain Matty Lee scored out wide and Jon Butler added the conversion.

Cadishead kept up the pressure and went further ahead when Jon Butler kicked a penalty in front of the visitors posts to extend the lead to 8-0.

The Rhinos looked in full control however a flurry of penalties gave St Maries some much needed field position and they scored on a rare visit in to the Cadishead half. The conversion sailed wide.

The Widnes side looked like they had finally woken up and started to play some good expansive rugby and they leveled the scores on 30 minutes with a try out wide exploiting the Rhinos slow line speed. The conversion was missed again and it was 8 all.

The Rhinos showed good composure to steady the ship 4 minutes later when a Grant Dodd offload found Jon Butler who crashed over and then converted his own try.

Just before the break Richie Hayes grabbed a crucial try to put the Rhinos 18-8 up at half time.

The Rhinos started the second half well with some good go forward and man of the match Kieran Hope playing at hooker took full advantage when he collected his own neat kick to score a good try which Jon Butler converted.

St Maries were not done yet and they sent out a warning to the Rhinos when they scored a converted try on 50 minutes.

Teenage centre Josh Williams then stepped up to show his class as he crashed over for try which Jon Butler failed to convert.

Once again though St Maries failed to lie down and when they scored a long distance converted try to bring the scoreline to 28-20 the Rhinos started to look nervous.

Unlike recent weeks though the Rhinos were still controlling the ball well and Danny Royle made an immediate impact off the bench when he found Matty Lee with a great ball and he raced over to settle the nerves with a fine try out wide. Jon Butler was wide again with the conversion.

The visitors started to look beaten and when Jimmy Crozier and Danny Royle combined with some excellent interplay and found winger Jay Peers outwide to dive over for a try the Rhinos could finally celebrate.

The final minutes saw some good relaxed play from Cadishead and Jay Peers grabbed his second try in the final minute when some good strength saw him force his way over and Jon Butler sealed the win by adding the conversion.
