The home team started with some aggressive defence making it hard for the Rhinos to get out of their own half and their hard work was rewarded after 4 minutes when they capitalised on an error by the Rhinos to score an unconverted try.

Cadishead showed some good mental toughness though with Grant Dodd and George McNulty-Shaw both making good yardage and on their first trip inside the Rylands half Richie Hayes playing at hooker crashed over for a try. Jon Butler missed the conversion and the score was 6-4.

Rylands were having the better field position and the Rhinos were struggling to make much impact going forward and the pressure told when the Sharks broke the line again to score out wide on 17 minutes.

Once again the Rhinos hit back again on another rare trip in to the opponents half when scrum half Jimmy Crozier collected his own kick close to the line to score a fine try. Jon Butler was wide with the conversion.

An error straight from the kick off put the Rhinos back under pressure though and moments later Rylands extended their lead with a simple try taking the scores to 16-8.

The final 10 minutes of the first half saw the Rhinos hang on with some desperate tackles and the half time score was much closer than it could have been.

The Rhinos started the second half much bright with props Ryan Hamer and Nathan Vernon both starting to make an impact and when Danny Royle's long kick pegged the opponents back in their own half the Rhinos looked to be gaining the upper hand.

On 44 minutes Richie Hayes targeted the blindside and crashed over for his second try of the afternoon and this time Jon Butler's conversion sailed over.

The momentum had changed and Cadishead were starting to dominate play as they completed their sets well and took full advantage of the strong wind with some intelligent kicking.

On 57 minutes stand off Danny Royle attacked the line and found captain Matty Lee with a great pass and the tall centre sailed over for a try, Jon Butler added the conversion to put the Rhinos 20-16 ahead.

The Rhinos were now running on hot and minutes later Richie Hayes broke through some poor defending and found Daryl Devlin in support who raced over for a try under the posts and Jon Butler once again added the extras.

Any celebrations were premature though and when Rylands scored with 10 minutes to go the Rhinos started to look nervous.

Once again the Sharks started to run with some venom and with Cadishead conceding a penalty in their own half Rylands were on the front foot. Their big pack battered the Rhinos line and on fifth tackle they managed to stretch out and plonk the ball down for a try. An easy conversion in front of the post put them 28-26 in front with minutes left.

The Rhinos were desperate and a good kick off and chase contained the Sharks in their own half and when the referee awarded Cadishead a penalty 40 meters out the Rhinos had a difficult decision to make.

Rhinos coach Paul Elliott instructed the team to run the ball but a knock on 10 meters from the Rylands line on third tackle saw Cadishead lose possession and moments later the referee blew his whistle for full time.
