Never one to shirk the challenge, Hywel put forward his predictions for Saturday's opening encounters in Division One North.

The excitement mounts, all the hard pre season work will be put to the test on Saturday as the new campaign starts -1.30 KICK OFFS-and the clubs commence their quest for the prestigious North Wales title.

Bro and Dinbych step down to Div 2 and Llangefni last season's champions return to the big time after two years. They are joined by Abergele who as a junior club have worked tirelessly over the years to earn their place in the senior division.

It's a pundit nightmare to try and predict results with no 'form' to go on but relying on snippets from pre season activities both on and off the field I will endeavour to have a go to generate interest and have a bit of fun!!.

Abergele welcome Mold to Pentre Mawr in their first league game at senior level - it will be a great occasion - and visitors Mold, who had an indifferent season by their standards, finishing 8th, will provide a stern test for the newcomers. Home advantage and support could tip the balance.

Bala who finished 4th last season host Bethesda who pipped them for 3rd place. This will be the usual hard fought encounter between these rivals but again home advantage favour the hosts to repeat the 15-6 victory in the corresponding match last season.

Llandudno travel to Dolgellau looking to repeat their 18-7 win on their last visit. Dol finished last season's campaign very strongly and if they continue in the same vein they may prove too strong for the visitors.

Llangefni entertain Caernarfon at Cae Smyrna. Last season's Div 2 champions were the highest try scorers -141- in all divisions and they will look to avenge their 52-21 defeat at the hands of the visitors in their last league encounter three years ago. The Cofis have been going well in pre season and may prove too strong for the Islanders.

Current champions Pwllheli are at home to COBRA who finished 7th last season. My spies tell me that both teams have had good pre season preparations both on and off the field. COBRA need to be at their very best to challenge the champions and the Lleyn boys may prove too strong for the Meifod side.

Nant make the journey to Rhuthin to try and emulate their 27-15 victory last season. Rhuthin have been going very well in their pre season matches and this could be close however Nant, last season's runners up, may have enough to take the points.
