Oval Zone wins All Wales Sport Award for Best Sports Social Media 2016

The Oval Zone, covering rugby in Mid and North Wales, has scooped a prestigious award.

As part of its continuing support for sport in Wales at both local and national level, All Wales Sport has announced its award winners for the 2015-16 season.

The recipients will be presented with the awards to recognize their achievements in the presence of invited guests at an Awards Evening in the Atlantic Hotel, Porthcawl on Thursday, 14 July.

Football Team of the Year - Cardiff Metropolitan University FC
Rugby Team of the Year - Burry Port RFC
Best Club Contact - Mark Cox (Malpas RFC)
Best Social Media Award 2016 - Gary Williams - 'The Oval Zone' - Mid & North Wales

Special Recognition Awards
Ffion Tynan - European Junior Golf Champion
Jean Wooller - for services to local football in Wales
Herbie Jones - for services to local rugby in Wales
Simon Veall - for contributions to rugby and cricket
Ebbw Vale RFC + Taffs Well RFC - for achievements in the National League & Cup competitions.
Ysgol Dyffryn Aman Girls Year 8 Football team - for team and individual performances that led to regional and national success.

Gary Williams, Secretary of Welshpool RFC and editor of the 'North and Mid Wales Rugby' magazine commented: 'I am proud to have been selected as the winner of this award and thank everybody who has been kind enough to send me information, as well as Ellis Davies and all the team at 'All Wales Sport' for their help and support which is very much appreciated'.

Gary is webmaster of the Oval Zone, and assists with the North Wales Rugby Union, Welshpool RFC, COBRA RFC, Bala RFC, Nant Conwy RFC and Mold RFC websites.

As well as the websites, The Oval Zone has a Facebook account as well as a Twitter account which Gary hosts, along with the Mid Wales Rugby Twitter account, with approximately 5,000 followers.

Summing up, Gary states: 'If somebody had told me a few years ago that I'd be uploading club websites, along with Twitter and Facebook accounts in my spare time at my age, I'd have thought they were mad. However, in this era of instant media, I'm loving every minute of it!'
