Cainscross continue winning form against a tenacious Yate team.

Cainscross entertained Yate following their encounter only two short weeks previously. Playing up the slope in the first Cainscross grappled with implementing their patterns and slowly made inroads into the Yate half but their line clearance issues reared its head once more as they deftly turned attack into defence in the first 10 mins. It took a set move from the promising centre pairing of Maller and O Connell to break the deadlock with O Connell showing a clean pair of heels to go over in the corner, King striking the kick. The next score underlined the scrum dominance being shown by Cainscross with the evergreen Weaver dab over from a push over try. King striking the conversion once more. Yate were not to be discounted and hit back with a try of their own. This prompted Cainscross to push on and a lovely outside break by Maller was just rewards for the last score of the half conversion missed. Both sides found some handbags on the floor to dance with resulting in two players to the bin to end the half.
The second half saw changes being made with veteran Ponsford joining the fray along with the lively O Dowd. The changes only added to the width that Cainscross could play with and O Connell was given the ball in the 15m channel with two players to beat and the covering defence, a lovely show and go saw him easily round the first two would be tacklers and turn on the afterburners to race down the wing for his second. Next on the score board was the dynamic Pollard who managed to squeeze over in the corner. O Connell third was a lovely ending to some slick hands. Yate hit back with one of their own to show they were not out of it just yet.
With players struggling with fatigue as a result of their work rate the final change was made with Vallendar introduced for Wall who left to a rousing round of applause for his workmanlike performance. The penultimate try showed the ambition of this side to play expansive rugby and the work rate they were prepared to get through, Vallendar fed the ball wide to Maller who put O Connell into space, he chipped through only to be impeded by the Yate defence but Marshall had worked from his own 22 and the opposite 22 to track the run and benefitted from the advantage being played.
Fittingly the final word went to pack, led by the dominant front row of Pollard, Organ and Hale who had won virtually every scrum all day. Yate had the put in but Cainscross dipped, called the drive and bullied their opposition over for Ponsford to claim the try for the Pack.
Another sound performance by Cainscross with lots of positives and credit must go to Yate who never gave in and pushed to the end.
