In honour of past player

Before Caister’s match on Saturday November 10th the players posed for a photograph with John Sutton a past Caister FC player.

The first recorded game by John was on 21 September 1946 when he played for Caister FC Minors, who beat St. George’s in a friendly but they were part of the Yarmouth Minor League.

The following Saturday John played for Caister FC Reserve team who lost away to Halvergate.

In the following seasons John played for the Reserves and by season 1950/51 he was an established First Team player with at least 16 appearances.

On Armistice Day 11 November 1950, some 68 years ago, John played for Caister FC against Fellows in the Holmes Cup. He is still a regular spectator at the field standing at the north end of the pitch not far from his home in Edinburgh Close.

Perhaps the red letter day for John was the Wiltshire Cup final at the Wellesley Ground on April 6th 1953, Caister losing to old rivals Halvergate by 6 goals to 3.

Caister FC recorded another victory by beating Wrexham Reserves 4 goals to nil.

Thanks to Patrick Hacon for arranging the photograph.
