Senior Tournaments
In 1944 Caldy started the Merseyside Sevens and it has run continuously since then making it the longest running” Club” Sevens Competition in England. However the structure of the game has changed significantly over the last 5 years. Previously any event needed permission from the RFU if they wanted to play after the end of April, now, with the development of league rugby and the rapidly developing sevens circuit in the Summer driven by the inclusion of Sevens in the commonwealth games and the Olympics. Caldy have made some significant decisions to re align the event into the current rugby structure. :-
•The event will now take place on Sunday 29th May which is more in line with the end of the rugby season.
•It will be more focussed on the family with entertainment for all both on and off the field.
•The hospitality marquee will be more inclusive the for families with good food and entertainment.
•A bar tent will be provided for the spectators but strictly controlled and available only to paid entrants to the ground.
•For the Sevens enthusiastic it will enable more teams to take part as the league season will have finished, already teams from , Wales ,Ireland, Scotland and England have shown an interest.
We are looking for volunteers to manage the event and make it fully inclusive for ALL. If you are interested in helping we need the following:-
•A Chairman to drive it forward
•A person to manage the family events which include booking funfairs and other events for the younger supporters.
•A person to manage the hospitality Marquee which includes arranging the food and entertainment.
•A person to organise and manage the bar tent.
•A person to manage the security.
If anyone is interested please contact Roger Flashman email :-roger.flashman@btinternet.com. There is already a significant infrastructure and experience already in place but we need to ensure the future of the event for the benefit of the members and the club and the Wirral in general.
