As expected, last weekend, there was not a great deal of rugby in the country never mind at Caldy. The only game that I am aware of taking place over the weekend locally saw Caldy Under 14s take on Chester Under 14s at Caldy on Sunday morning and what a game it was. The prize was a place in the Cheshire Cup Semi Finals and Caldy managed to hang on in a tense final quarter to edge home. The standard of rugby from both sides was exceptional with the Caldy back rower proving to be the difference between the two sides as they tackled everything that moved. Well done boys and good luck in the next round. Dave Brewster has written an excellent match report, please take your time to read it.
The 1st XV were due to travel to Hull this weekend in National Two North but unfortunately the weather put paid to any hopes with the game being called off at 12.20 this afternoon with both snow and frost on their pitch.
The 2nd XV are in a strange position this week as they are still unsure as to where they will be playing. They are due to play Preston Grasshoppers for the fourth time already this season in the quarter finals of the Raging Bull Cup away at Preston but the rules state that if the game is not playable at Preston but playable at Caldy then the fixture is switched. More information to follow when it is received from Preston but nevertheless I am sure it will be a fine game between two excellent 2nd XV sides as the previous three have been with Preston edging it so far 2-1.
The 3rd XV, weather depending, will also be in quarter final action when they entertain Warrington 2nd XV in Round 2 of the Raging Bull Trophy. Jon Bagley and his men will face a very tough task with Warrington being one of the only sides to beat the 3rd XV this season with both sides sitting at the top of the league.
The Senior Colts are due to complete their league campaign this weekend when they visit Manchester. Manchester beat Caldy at Paton Field earlier in the season and will finish the league in second place but Caldy are hoping to complete another excellent season in the A league by finishing a creditable third and then look forward to the various cup competitions. The Junior Colts are due to play Macclesfield in their last game of the league campaign this Sunday and despite their huge injury list will be hoping to finish in third also.
Weather permitting; we have a nearly full Sunday of rugby.
The minis are hosting Wirral RUFC in all age groups.
In the Juniors:
- U13s are currently looking for a game.
- U14s are at home hosting Sandbach.

And finally for my quote of the week “The trouble with weather forecasting is that it's right too often for us to ignore it and wrong too often for us to rely on it.” Patrick Young
