Hold the press! The date is no longer 7th May: it is now 21st May. I presume this has been done to accommodate the first team season dragging on well into May. The other details are correct, or at least they are at the moment. Things can't change again........can they?
This year the dinner is to be held in the marquee at the club. For as long as I have been involved at the club it has been held on the Thursday before Easter, but someone out there has decided on an early May date this time round. In my first years at the club Caldy Golf Club was the venue, and was quite a swish affair. However, one year there was a cabaret boxing match towards the end of the evening and the do moved on elsewhere. It was held within the club for several years, but the size of the clubhouse limited places. Last year Thornton Hall fulfilled the fixture. I remember seeing a particularly debonair Mark Dean there.
I am not sure why the date has been changed: it's not the sort of thing anyone tells you. While the old date was fixed to Easter, it was a bit of a moveable feast, as it were. Perhaps the new date, in early May, is to be a permanent fixture. Potentially a good end of season bash. Or at least it would be the end of season if the 1st team didn't have a game the next day.
I presume the change of venue, bringing it back to the club, has been done to decrease overheads and increase revenue for the club. It seems a sensible move to me. The grand marquee will be........well, grand.
The price is £30 a head - a positive bargain. I am unsure what time it is kicking off: 7:00 for 7:30 perhaps. (I have just found the time under 'Events' - yes 7:30). Black tie is the dress of the day: see photo of Deano for details.
