Under 12s - First Win Of Many

Albion Sports U12s 2 - 3 Calverley United U12s

It may have been a long time in coming but a ten-game wait meant a first Craven, Aire and Wharfe league victory of the season tasted all the sweeter for Calverley.

Two second half goals from Sam Thompson enabled Calverley to overturn a 2-1 half time deficit but it took a superb late save from goalkeeper Matthew Hodges to hold on for the win.

The hard work was done slogging away up the slope into the wind in the first period, restricting Albion to a one-goal advantage. Uditha Dissanayaka poached two goals for Albion but in between Louis Squires struck with a spectacular long-range shot from wide out on the left.

Calverley's offside trap, expertly marshalled by man of the match Harry Davis, brought frustration for mid-table Albion with two disallowed goals but Tommy Reynolds also went close, hitting the post.

After the break, Albion were pinned down for long periods by Calverley's dominant midfield, in which Ethan Horne was an industrious presence. After a series of close squeaks Calverley's patience was rewarded when Thompson finished neatly after a fine advantage had been played following a foul on Danny Taylor.

The winner came when Reynolds' corner from the left caused chaos in the box and Thompson was on hand to deliver a deserved victory which was just reward for the resilience of the squad and management after a tough season so far in the A division.
