Camborne Cricket Club - A statement
At a recent meeting of the Club’s MC it was agreed that it would be helpful to issue a statement to the Club’s players, members and supporters.
The Club has been experiencing some challenging times of late both on and off the field. As a Club we have always believed that we should seek to play at the highest level possible and with this in mind we were proud to accept our place in the Cornwall Premier League for Season 2018. We knew this would be a challenge for the whole club and so it has proved. However, we decided that we would not pull out of the league and that we would fulfil our fixtures, win, lose or Duckworth Lewis! As a Club we want to emphasise that this is still very much the case. We will fulfil our fixtures and seek to be competitive in every game we play whether at 1st, 2nd or 3rd team level. Each visiting team can be assured of a warm welcome at Camborne, we believe we have some of the best facilities in the County and we are extremely proud of all that we have achieved over the past three years. On a further positive note, our All Stars Cricket programme and youth section continue to thrive with increasing numbers of both youngsters and helpers this year. We have four U15 players representing the County and former first team player Chris Gibson recently scored his maiden century for Notts 2nd X1.
Off the field, we were faced with some difficult choices, it was clear that the club was not sustainable in the long term. We needed to cut costs and run the club in a more efficient way. We cancelled certain contracts and renegotiated others saving the club around £5000 per year, money that can now be invested in our future plans. We were also dealing with an ongoing and very serious situation with HMRC which restricted our ability to make any major investments in the Club before and after the start of this season. We are now pleased to inform you that the issue has been resolved, the Club’s position upheld and we are now due a repayment, which will be used to make a final payment to our Century Project and the remainder will be invested back into the club. We are also pleased to inform you that due to the tough choices and wise investments we have made, the club is now in a much more positive financial position to plan for a positive and sustainable future.
The addition of a new sponsorship co-ordinator and new financial advisor will also ensure that we can plan for the future with renewed confidence
Going forward our plans for the next three years include,
• A new pitch roller
• A new scoreboard
• Extensive work on our squares and outfields
• Completing the work to our bar area
• Engaging the services of a player coach
The Management Committee wish to thank all our members, supporters, sponsors, players and in particular our captains for their unwavering loyalty and support.

For the love of the game
Mark Richards (Chairman) on behalf of the MC of Camborne CC
