Old friends gather on a special day ...

A place of friendship and community, it encapsulates the best of all of us, including my father. And, like you all, he just loved cricket. Simple.
- Tim Teeman

A special part of our day was the rededication of the John Teeman clock.
It was held in front of the changing rooms during the tea interval and included some words sent by his son Tim, who now lives in the USA. The clock had been paid for by a small group of club members and supporters, who were good friends of John. It replaces the original clock that was damaged some time ago. John served the club faithfully as a player, 2nd X1 captain and President and was instrumental in helping the Club rebuild the pavilion in 1973/4.

Here are Tim’s words, that formed the basis of the ceremony.

Hello everyone. I am typing these words in New York where I live now, but my memory is elsewhere--watching an afternoon's cricket with my father.
I am thinking about the many happy afternoons and days my Dad spent at Camborne Cricket Club. He loved this place, and loved cricket, passionately.
Speaking on behalf of his family, I am immensely moved by the restoration--and today, the dedication--of the clock, which bears my father's name. He died in 1986, when I was 13. Those who loved him, as much today, as he was when he died, so tragically young, miss him.
He would have loved that the money I have donated would have gone to some new signage, and the creation of a window in the kitchen, which I hope means that those who make tea have a lovely new view of the game going on the pitch.
Those of you who knew my dad will remember, I hope, a warm and kind man. A witty man, a man who cared passionately about people, and the community in which he lived and worked.
I was too young to have such discussions with him of course, but I think that is what he--and perhaps many of you here today--hold dear about the Club; that it is a place to come together, play sport, be with friends, make bonds, connections, and have a day away from our desks and daily lives doing something we love and enjoy around people who love and enjoy the same thing. A place of friendship and community, it encapsulates the best of all of us, including my father.
And, like you all, he just loved cricket. Simple.
Please enjoy the Reunion Day today. I absolutely know my dad is smiling somewhere, and raising a glass--well, maybe more than a glass--to the Club, and all who are gathered here today.
Thank you again,
Tim Teeman
