Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club (to give them their full title) visited CCC on Tuesday night for a scheduled 25 over match. The great British Summer soon put paid to that however. Amongst all the gloom a Pool and Darts competition emerged with some epic encounters taking place. CCC edged the darts, but were all but cleaned up in the Pool by our Trans-Atlantic cousins. A great night was had by all, with Tour "Skipper" Tom Vandewater presenting the Club with a memorial plaque, hats, badges etc. A mention also has to be made of the "hearty" rendition of the Canadian National Anthem at the start of the evening. I'm sure that was a first at CCC!
We all thought that was that, until, with a gap in their schedule and several hundred phone calls made, we managed to arrange a 20/20 of sorts on the Thursday evening! Again some memorable performances were witnessed, on and off the field! Particular mention has to go to Alex Mitchell for his "hat-trick". Nice one Mitch! Also to Tim "The Duke of Windsor" Tremain, who took over behind the bar for a spell and did a fine job.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank TCS&CC for their generousity and great sense of humour, and also the compliments we received from them. It was an absolute honour to meet, play against and socialise with a great bunch of guys. I know this is a feeling shared by everyone at CCC who were fortunate enough to be involved, many thanks to all those that turned up to support the club.
Regards,
Ken
Thanks Ken - two great evenings, which I'm sure our new best Canadian friends very much enjoyed.
The Duke of Windsor - he was a quick learner, and very good at reaching bottles from the top shelf!
So glad we had plenty of pasties - pleased to say, Mark and I were eaten out of house and home!!
Hope to see the Associates again soon :-)
