Camborne overtake Wadebridge at the top

On a peppering hot day at Roskear, Camborne beat promotion rivals Wadebridge by 107 runs

On easily the hottest day so far this season, home grown Camborne skipper Liam Weeks maintained his exceptional tossing ability this season and elected to bat. Wadebridge opted to open with leg arm spin from one end but Nick King(42) was not fazed and hit some early blows to leave Camborne 70-1 before being caught at mid-off. The innings was then accelerated by Liam Weeks(60) including 4 big sixes while Sam Pooley was the main-stay making a well composed 61. Jordan Harvey(31) & Daniel Stephens(21) added some late runs as Camborne finished on 285-9 from their 50 overs, helped by 38 extras. David Dunnett was the pick of the bowlers taking 2-37, with Charlie Ellis & Robert Centini both taking 2 late wickets each.
Chasing their target, Wadebridge made a rapid start adding 67 for the first wicket before Matt Jolliffe(21) was dismissed by Dan Stephens, Sage Masher took an huge steepling catch in the deep, opener James Maycock smashed 54, before Dan Hocking returned to the attack bowling a classy double wicket maiden to swing the match in Cambornes favour, dismissing Maycock by having him caught at long-off smartly by Matt Hewitt and then trapping Wadebridge overseas Callan Morse LBW plumb. Dan Stephens then bowled a 2nd spell dismantling the middle order taking 4-17 from his 9 overs, the innings then dragged on before Ryan Downing returned to take the final 2 wickets as Wadebridge were bowled out for 178. Camborne gained 20 points to Wadebridges 8 leaving them top of County one, a tough trip to Callington awaits this coming Saturday. A team bus has been organised so any supporters are welcome.
The Vinter Cup Quarter final was also finally played against Beacon on Thursday, Camborne winning by 28 runs largely down to Daniel Stephens who made 58 not out helping Camborne to 127-6, and then taking 3 wickets for 2 runs from his 4 overs, restricting Beacon to 99 all out in reply.
The semi-final is on Thursday 22nd at Helston agaisnt Penzance. 6pm start.
