Alan's final Chat as Chairman.

Final Chairman’s Chat!

Although I am standing down as Chairman I would like to make it clear that I have no intention of not continuing my involvement with the club. My association started when I was 17 and during the last 49 years have played, coached, selected as well as fulfilling the Director of Rugby and Chairman’s roles. Camborne RFC is in my blood and will continue to be so for, hopefully, a long time to come. So many positive things have happened in recent years and I predict that good times lie ahead!

However, we must not stand still!

We must continue to make positive links in our community. Strong links with the businesses and residents of the town are vital; Camborne Rugby Club needs to be a social magnet for local people and a sporting centre for young people. Our facilities, compared to any club in Cornwall , are beyond compare; we now need to build on what we have and try to move to the next level. We must aim for National League status and all work towards finding ways of supporting our players in that quest. We have seen, and continue to see, rugby clubs committing suicide by trying to ‘live beyond their means’. I know we will not do this but, a commonsense approach, with sensible management which is currently in place at the club, and with a committed effort by our members and sponsors I firmly believe that promotion to the next level is possible. The players want it, the coaches want it, therefore we must do all we can to facilitate their ambitions!

I have already made it very clear that I will support the new Chairman and assist, if required, in every possible way.

We need more members and I intend to actively encourage more of the Camborne community to join our wonderful club and support us by joining our ‘100 club’ for example.

There have been, during the last 135 years several ‘golden eras’ in the clubs history. There is a current ‘feeling’ about the club that another ‘golden era’ is not far away!

I was fortunate to have been involved, as coach, with Camborne during the 1976 to 1982 period when we were, without doubt, ‘Cornish champions’. Enjoyable and exciting times but I can honestly say these last 7 years, first of all as Director of Rugby and recently as Chairman have been equally as rewarding and enjoyable. The spirit amongst the players, the enthusiasm and dedication of our committee is terrific, the generosity and loyalty of our highly valued sponsors and the support I’ve received has been phenomenal. I would like to thank everyone at the club for their support and hard work.

My successor will inherit a keen and hard working committee, a terrific group of players and coaches and a positive, upbeat spirit within the club.

As I’ve said before’ ‘the future’s bright, the future’s Cherry & White’.

Onwards and upwards Alan, when and not if we reach the National Leagues a lot of what we will have acheived will be down to the foundation you have laid with your hard work and enthusiasm.
Next season will be Camborne's year as we will continue to improve on and off the pitch. I've got a paint brush with your name on it for the Summer work party! no rest for the wicked.
