Refurbishment plans moving on with some exciting improvements planned for the REC.

Project 2018 Progressing

Last year Camborne Rugby Club launched a new fundraising campaign under the banner ‘’Project 2018’’ which is seeking to raise funds for the refurbishment of the Recreation Ground.

The signature of a new 99 year lease on The Rec with Camborne Town Council guaranteed rugby would continue at the historic ground for the foreseeable future.
Meetings have taken place with all sections of the Club and with a wide range of local stakeholders outlining the ambitions to move forward and improve the facilities on offer at the Rec.
A variety of enhancement works are necessary including steps on the West Bank, changing room upgrades, improvements to heating and the boiler, resurfacing pedestrian/road area's and attention to the grandstand itself.

Plans are already in hand to proceed with a variety of smaller aspects with contractors standing by to deliver other areas.

Modernisation of the internal facilities at the Rec is the major project and the Club has consulted the Cornwall RFU as well as receiving advice from the RFU’s Area Facilities Manager prior to engaging local company Envisage Planning & Design to draw up plans for the redesign and refurbishment.

Former player Nick Wellstead of Envisage is leading on the project and has a wealth of professional experience and expertise in planning, design, building regulation and project management.
He has produced some exciting draft drawings of the internal alterations and associated works that are due to be presented to the membership imminently.
Once agreed the Club will be moving quickly forward with the costing and financing plans for the scheme.

On the pitch the Cherry & Whites are currently on the up with three straight wins since Liam Chapple returned to take up the reins as Director of Rugby. A huge game looms with runaway South West Premier leaders Dings Crusaders due at the Rec next Saturday and a large crowd expected for the 2.30 kick off.
