Nomads Twos keep their winning ways
The Twos beat Bourne Deeping 2-1 at Coldhams
On the back of a good start to the year, Nomads sought to bag a second win on the trot - and their first win at home!
The first half was nil-nil. The debate in the changing room afterwards was whether this half was the direst team display that we had mustered this season or not. Regardless Carl should be credited with soaking up lots of pressure as Left Back. John put in a couple of critical saves.
The second half saw Nomads exercise greater authority on the ball - mainly because we moved the ball more slowly and more deliberately, with a greater emphasis going down the right hand side of the pitch.
Nomads first goal came from Sugi streaking along the back line. He committed the goal keeper and Sugi leapt into the air and with his body virtually horizontal, he managed to steer the ball over the goal line past a defender from close range - possibly even one-handed to make it sound even more heroic. Words cannot do justice to the beauty of this endeavour!!
Bourne Deeping pulled one back from a short corner routine which saw the ball loop high into the back of the net.
Nomads increasing took authority of the game. Notable mention of Spence for some marvellous defensive stick work as he, alone, was facing two attackers bearing down on him on a break.
The final winning goal was a captain's delight: smashed from the top of the crowded D to squeak in at the near post in the final two minutes - Sugi just managed to get his toes out of the way in time - although he should have scored 5 minutes earlier from some lovely interlinking play that found him and Angus taking turns to round defenders before Arthur blasted a reverse stick strike wide in front of an open goal.
Oh sweet victory and my, didn't the beer taste good in the Brook .... and we levitated out of the relegation zone!
