Despite dominating the match, and being guilty of wasting a number of glorious chances, it took until the final 10 minutes for CUP to break the deadlock. Jose scored less than two minutes after missing his second penalty in as many games, finishing well into the bottom left corner on 81.

Three substitutions in one go was made a few minutes later, to bring on fresh legs and maintain the lead. Dan then settled the tie as the end approached, beating the offside trap to slot the ball calmly past the Chatteris Town keeper in the 88th minute.

Chatteris did create a few good chances but it was CUP who looked much stronger, and will be very pleased to get the deserved win so early in the season.

The matches come thick-and-fast as the 1st travel to rivals and fellow newly promoted Comberton tomorrow evening (Tuesday 22nd August), before another home match on Saturday. The Reserves begin their season this Thursday at Godmanchester Rovers Reserves in Senior B.
