It was an evening that ended in despair for CUP FC on Friday as the 1st team suffered penalty heartache in the final of the Terry Wilson Trophy.
The 1sts started well in the match vs last season's Kershaw Premier runners-up Great Shelford, taking a 1 - 0 lead as Jose converted from the penalty spot in a first half which saw numerous good chances pass by. Our opponents equalised in the second half and missed their own good chances as the scores stayed level at 1 - 1.
CUP ended the match with 10 men as Matt Lee received his marching orders less than 5 minutes after coming on a sub. Shelford converted 4 of their penalties in the shootout to claim the win.
Congratulations must go to the eventual winners and Fulbourn on hosting another fantastic, high quality tournament.
Both CUP teams are in action again this week at the Cass, with the Reserves vs the CUP Staff team on Tuesday evening followed by the 1sts hosting Chatteris Town on Wednesday in their pre-season match. The Reserves then conclude their pre-season on Saturday against Cherry Hinton Reserves at Comberton VC
