Reserves beat Godmanchester Rovers Reserves 4 - 2 in Senior B opener

CUP Reserves started their season with a bang winning 4 - 2 at Godmanchester Rovers Reserves last night, in their Senior B opener.

In a game that kicked off at 7.45pm and was played under lights at Goddy's DWH Stadium, the Reserves played some great football to show the improvements a good pre-season had made. They led 1 - 0 at half time thanks to a Ben Johnston strike after 24 minutes.

The match got better for CUP shortly after the interval, with striker Ollie Cox scoring on his debut to double the lead on 49 before Shaun Greenwood came off the bench to repeat Ollie's achievement and make it 3 - 0 in the 56th minute. The hosts hit back soon after, and made it a nervy finish when they reduced their deficit to one in the final 5 minutes.

Kienen settled the tie in the final minute, finishing well to ensure a 4 - 2 victory which saw CUP go top of the league with 3 points and a plus 2 goal difference - something they'll hope to maintain for the long season ahead.

The 1st team followed their home win on Saturday with a 1 - 1 drew at fellow newly promoted side Comberton in the Kershaw Premier on Tuesday. Dan Heron grabbed the goal to continue his scoring form, making it a goal in each of the first 3 games.

The 1sts host last season's league runners-up Great Shelford this Saturday, while the Reserves travel to Royston Town A who were relegated from Senior A last season. Both matches are a 3pm kick off.
