An update from August's matches - 3 wins from 3 for the 1st team, 4 points from 4 games for the Reserves

It's been a busy first month to the season for CUP FC with the 1st and Reserves team playing a combined 7 matches in August.

Both teams claimed wins in their season openers with the 1st team winning comfortably 4 - 0 at home to Fulbourn Institute Reserves on Tuesday 16th before the Reserves edged a close game with Godmanchester Rovers 1 - 0 two days later on Thursday 18th.

The 1st team were then in action again on Saturday 20th as they travelled to Orwell, winning 3 - 0 in another strong performance; the Reserves had a free weekend.

Following Barrington's withdrawal (always a sad sight to see) before the season began the 1st team didn't have a mid-week game but the Reserves did hosting Whittlesford United on Tuesday 23rd. A bright start saw a 1 - 0 lead before a much-improved and physical opposition saw the Reserves suffer a 4 - 1 defeat.

Saturday 27th had both teams on their travels with the Cass Centre unavailable due to cricket, with the 1st team at Great Paxton and the Reserves taking a trip to newly-promoted Red Lodge. A dominant and comprehensive saw the 1sts win 7 - 1 while the Reserves rued missed chances as they were the better team but lost 3 - 1.

The Reserves had their final mid-week game at the start of the season last night (Tuesday 30th) at a tricky Ashdon Villa, and secured a 2 - 2 draw. A poor first 20 minutes gave the hosts a 2 goal lead, but an improved display from then and a fantastic 2nd half had CUP back level and in the end a little disappointed not to claim the 3 points.

Notable contributions so far:
1. Bradley Erskine has scored 7 goals in the 1st team's first 3 games
2. Jose Patricio scored 5 in his first game of the season vs Great Paxton
3. Csaba Hajdu scored the winner vs Godmanchester Rovers Reserves, only his second goal in 10 years for CUP FC
4. Jonny Pugh has scored 2 penalties in 2 games for the Reserves
5. Shaun McAvoy and Alex Ray kept 3 clean sheets between them in August
6. 21 players have played for the 1st team so far, 23 for the Reserves
