Reserves win comfortably after 2nd half dominance

Reserves win 6 - 1 after dominant performance in the 2nd half vs Red Lodge

For the third Saturday in a row we were at home, hosting Red Lodge at the Cass on another sunny day. Vast improvements were needed after the 6 - 0 mid-week defeat at Senior B title favourites Bar Hill. Our aim was to win for a third consecutive home game and avenge August's loss at Red Lodge, when we were unlucky to come away with nothing. The squad had a number of changes due to availability, which worked out well as some regulars replaced other with Callum, Csaba and Martin returning...

Team: Luca, Csaba, Kenny, Ryan, Elliott, Jun, Josh ©, Callum, Sefa, Martin, Rob
Subs: Jamie, Vagner, Rickie, Scott

It was an even first half with us and Red Lodge exchanging possession and creating some chances, although those being clear-cut were limited. Our opponents did have a couple of potentially dangerous players who were relatively well dealt with. We were the slightly better team overall but trailed at the break after a defensive error was capitalised by their winger finishing calmly past Luca.

We knew chances would come in the 2nd half if we remained patient and continued working our opponents hard. And sure enough the breakthrough came within a minute of the re-start. Rickie, on as a half-time sub for Jun who had given his all, equalised as he finished off a move which started in defence by placing his shot into the top corner across the despairing keeper. What a way to make an impact.

For the following 10 or so minutes both defences had to make important blocks and tackles to keep the game level, Red Lodge's best chance snuffed out moments before we took the lead through Rob - who slotted calmly when through one-on-one. 2 - 1 soon became 3 - 1, and then 4 - 1, as Rob scored carbon copy goals to complete his hat-trick.

Shortly before Rob scored his 3rd, Scott replaced the impressive Martin. Martin then came back on for Rob, and linked up well with Scott, as both got themselves on the scoresheet. Scott finished off a very well worked move by placing the pull-back into the bottom corner, before Martin broke through and deceived the on-rushing keeper beating him on his nearside.

Kenny was unfortunate not to grab his second of the season moments before full time as his shot from a corner was blocked on the line, one of a few moments the down-heartened visitors foiled a chance for us to extend the lead further. There was a real sense of satisfaction as the final whistle went after a positive display, especially 2nd half - impressing the first teamers who were there supporting.

A deserved victory and fantastic result against a team currently 2nd in the Senior B table. We made our fitness count and upped our quality in the second period. A solid team performance mixed with many strong individuals performances. We consolidate our 10th place in the league table with the aim of finishing higher by ending the season as best we can. Next week we are home to Ashdon Villa ready for a battle between two mid-table sides, aiming to make it 4 home wins from 4...
