1st League game under our belts
Ghosts of 2017 now left behind
Sunday started warm and bright and for Hemel it got even better as the day went on.
After lasts years game where Ampthill took us to the cleaners the team have moved on over the year and although cautious the team were confident in their abilities.
The game was a great match of rugby from start to finish. Hemel spent most of the first half in Ampthills end of the pitch and scored one well worked try and should have then taken a 10 nil lead but due to a missed high tackle the second try of the game was spilled.
The game became a physical exchange by both teams playing aggressive and fast. Hemel just couldn't unlock the Ampthill defence and slowly Ampthill got a foothold in the game and started heading deep into the Hemel half.
The last 10 minutes of the 1st half was impressive rugby by both teams with some aggressive attacking runs by the big Ampthill forwards being meet and hit by a wall of blue and white shirts. In the last few moments of the half Ampthill manged to get over the line giving a 5-5 score.
The second half continued in the same manner that the first half ended. Players from both sides giving 100% in attack and defence, however Camelot forwards where beginning to get on top of the Ampthill players and the backs were making further headway scoring two lovely tries.
Hemel looked to score the vital 4th try but Ampthill were not finished and got over the try line in the last few seconds of the game to bring the final score to 17-10.
Plenty of positives for the team but still more to work on.
Great start to league campaign with more to come
