Lairds FA Cup exploits are over for another season following defeat at Gigg Lane. Both sides struggled to create any real chances in the opening half hour, and it wasn't until a through ball from Gibiluru to let Henders free to the edge of the box and his effort was just wide of the home goal. It all started to unravel for Lairds when poor defending allowed Neville to stride into the penalty area from the left and fire home past Molloy's near post. Five mins later the Lairds defence had gone AWOL allowing Wright a simple chance from six yards and leave Jones with an injury after he and Molloy had collided. On 43 mins Norton tok advantage of a error from Molloy to seal the victory before half time.
The second period had just got going with Haughton replacing Jones. United went down the lairds right and from Norton shot the ball hit Grogan and went in to make it 4-0. Hughes made his debut on 57mins and he produced a run up the left and crossed for Henders to put just wide of the post. Haughton went close with a cross shot three min later but United were keeping possession too easily and it came as no surprise when Norton scored his second on 68mins. Lairds were down but kept going with Potter hitting a long range effort on 75mins which Worsnop saved, and Henders and Haughton combining to force a corner from which Richards hit high and wide. Ferrigan made a good tackle on platt late on and from the corner Molloy saved the resulting header easily. Disappointing result for Lairds but United overall deserved to go through to the next round.
