Lairds defeated at Garforth
A disappointing performance as Lairds suffered a 6-0 reverse to Garforth Town. Due to late withdrawals Lairds started with a much changed team and with player/manager Tony Sullivan amongst the substitutes. A strong wind was at the back of the home team and Lairds got off to the worst possible start falling behind after just 52 seconds to a Paul Walker effort. Things got worse as Lairds failed to clear and found themselves two down on 14 mins. Despite the strong wind hampering any Lairds attempt to build play there was some good play mostly involving Lairds skipper Adamson, but few chances were created and Stevenson was called upon to make a save from a Brown effort on 28 mins as the pressure mounted on an overworked Lairds back line. Paul Cliff had Lairds first effort on goal on half an hour but Town hit back and Jones did well to block a Walker effort for a corner on 38 mins.
The strong wind fell significantly during the break but Lairds quickly fell further behind on 52mins and on 56 mins it was game over as Town made it four. lairds kept going and Adamson worked hard in particular but Town always seem to have an edge and late strikes from Town made it 6-0. Stevenson made several good saves, and Vaulks and Jones kept going as the defence was often overrun too often. A game for Lairds to forget.
